By February 17, 2009, all televisions must have digital capability. This means that programming received through “rabbit ears” or on a roof antenna will need a digital-to-analog converter box to continue watching television on that set after February 17, 2009. These boxes will cost approximately $40 to $70, and coupons are available to consumers in need of extra financial assistance. RSVP volunteers can be a vital resource in communities to assist with the transition – from helping to educate the public to assisting with installation of converter boxes. These lessons learned about engaging RSVP volunteers in the analog to digital initiative were submitted by Dr. Melody Prevatte, Director of Volunteer Services, Southeastern Community College – Columbus County RSVP, Whiteville, North Carolina.
