Abstract:
Provides an overview of the community-based learning model and its underlying theoretical basis. Describes the shared characteristics of community-based learning and connects theory to practice by exploring how these characteristics build on what is already known about how young people learn. Summarizes the outcomes (academic, civic and moral, personal and social, and work related) of various community-based learning strategies. Intended as a call to action aimed at policy makers, educators, advocates, community partners, and funders.
