Abstract:
Highlights the state of youth volunteering and considers the relationships between youth volunteer behavior and three primary environments where youth form their social networks: family, religious organizations, and school. Presents key findings from a survey of 3,178 Americans between the ages of 12 and 18 who were asked about their volunteer activities and experiences. Marks the first step in developing a comprehensive model of volunteering behavior among youth that will include other factors such as race, gender, age, income, and other household factors.
