Hurricane Katrina—Senior Corps Response
Thislist contains examples of Senior Corps grantees engaged in activitiesrelated to the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Examples are arranged, bystate:
Alabama
Approximately 33,000 evacuees from Mississippi and Louisiana have cometo Alabama. The Alabama RSVP projects are doing the following:
- Calhoun County RSVP serves as a Spontaneous Volunteer Station withthe Red Cross helping with shelters. By request of the Governor,McClellan Air Force base is opening barracks to provide stable housingfor evacuees. Sixteen new RSVP volunteers will assist withregistration and help with food. RSVP volunteers were among the 2,000who assisted in the clean-up of the barracks on Monday. Volunteers willbe supporting this activity for several months.
- Wiregrass RSVP in Dothan has 20 volunteers in mass-care shelters, andis opening a day shelter where those passing through can get a mealbefore they get back on the road. RSVP volunteers transportedfour evacuees to the Atlanta airport over the weekend and expect thatthis will be an ongoing activity. Other volunteers will betrained in “Mass Care and Intake.” Two nurses are volunteering toassist with medications, wellness checks, etc.
- Pike County RSVP has 30 + volunteers serving with Red Cross and thelocal EMA in local shelters helping 300 evacuees located here.Pike County has formed a LOCAL relief effort where local businesses,churches, and individuals are working to make evacuees as comfortableas possible while meeting immediate needs for housing, food, andmedical attention. Local funds were raised to help cover housingcosts, personal items and food.
- Colbert County Homeland Security RSVP in northwest Alabama is servingas the point of contact for temporary housing for evacuees in thatcounty. Red Cross, Salvation Army, and United Cares are allreferring evacuees to RSVP for housing. RSVP volunteers arecontacting landlords with available rental units and assessing needs.Two families have already been provided for.
- Birmingham RSVP had ten volunteers out over the weekend supportingthe Red Cross at its shelter in the Civic Center where more than 600evacuees are staying. Volunteers served food and handed outclothing.
- At the request of the AL State Office, the National Alliance ofVietnamese American Social Agencies, a Next Generation Grantee, isproviding translation services to support response to Bayou LaBatre, aseverely-impacted fishing community near Mobile with a large Vietnamesepopulation.
- Marshall County RSVP project sent 9 volunteers to help with disasterrelief, 5 through the Marshall Baptist Association and 4 through theRed Cross. In addition, about 45 Marshall County RSVP volunteers aresupporting evacuees, assisting Red Cross Disaster Teams in Florida andAlabama; helping United Way’s First Call for Help, working withSalvation Army, and helping reconnect evacuee families.
- Talledega County RVSP volunteers are providing transportation andassisting in elementary schools, helping with Red Cross Blood Drives,delivering supplies to MS and LA, and serving meals to evacuees housedat the Talledega Super Speedway Dome.
- Lauderdale County RSVP volunteers are providing support to evacueescoming into the county. Montgomery Area RSVPs have converted anold nursing home into temporary housing for evacuees, and one volunteeris assisting in reuniting lost children with their families.Greene County RSVPs – The Alabama Governor’s office contacted theCounty Judge, requesting that. RSVP volunteers are coordinating adistribution center in an abandoned building on the town square toprovide items such as clothing, health and beauty aids, food, water,etc to support temporary housing for an expected 5,000 evacuees.
Arizona
- Area Agency on Aging Region One RSVP- 22 RSVP volunteers stationed atthe Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Transient Aid Center aresupporting relief efforts and have assisted in (TAC) which has alreadyrelocated approximately 50 of Katrina's refugees-helping them reachfriends or family in other parts of the country. Starting Monday, TACvolunteers interviewed refugees from the New Orleans area, who wereflown to Phoenix, to determine if they had established support systemselsewhere in the country. Phone calls to friends and relatives weremade to ensure that individuals could provide the necessary support toget the hurricane victims back on their feet when they arrive in newdestinations. Seven RSVP volunteers are also stationed with the RedCross in Phoenix and have been supporting the assistance to the 457evacuees in the Veterans Memorial Coliseum shelter in Phoenix.
- Central AZ Association of Governments RSVP- 28 RSVP volunteers whoserve at the Time Out Domestic Abuse Shelter and the associated thriftshop in Payson, AZ are working with the local chapter of the AmericanRed Cross to hold a BAG SALE PLUS on Wed, Sept 14. Community membersare asked to fill a bag with good quality or new clothing for men,women and children, including maternity goods, for $1 and leave the bagat the shop. Red Cross volunteers will pick up the filled bags andarrange for distribution to the survivors of the hurricane.
- Twenty-eightRSVP volunteers who serve at the Time Out Domestic Abuse Shelter inPayson are working with the local chapter of the American Red Cross andcollecting good quality or new clothing for men, women and children,including maternity goods and arranging for the distribution of theitems to go to the survivors of the hurricane.
California
- Catholic Charities, San Diego FGP/SCP are coordinating evacuee host family effortin San Diego. FGP’s taking donations.
- YMCA of Greater Whittier RSVP—two RSVP’s and one staff deployed to MSthrough Red Cross to transport supplies and supportcommunications. RSVP raised and contributed almost $20,000 forrelief work.
- VNA & Hospice of Southern California is donating $10,000 to the AmericanRed Cross for Katrina Relief.
- Threevolunteers and an employee of the RSVP of Greater Whittier have beendriving trucks with supplies and doing computer work for the Red Crossin Baton Rouge, LA.
Florida
- RSVP of Ft. Lauderdaleassists the Red Cross in identifying the needs of evacuees. Theyhave partnered Senior Companions with elderly evacuees who are stayingin Senior Centers, and have sent notices to 80 RSVP volunteers onbehalf of Meals on Wheels to solicit service to families in need.
- RSVP of Broward Countyis partnering with the Red Cross to deliver meals to families affectedby Katrina when it went through south Florida.
- Tri-County League of Cities hosted a food drive to benefit Second Harvest to assist the 5,000 evacuees in the Orlando area.
- Brevard County RSVP isworking with the United Way to adopt a Louisiana Parish or MississippiTownship to assist with long-term recovery.
Georgia
- 27 Homeland Security(SVP) volunteers with Morehouse School of Medicine are activelyinvolved with local shelters performing such services as sorting,folding and boxing clothes and food items and providing directionalinformation to the residents.
Iowa
- RSVP in Decorah is involved in Decorah Cares, which is “adopting” the community of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
- Carroll RSVP has beenasked to donate 50 large quilts and 20 baby blankets for the hurricanevictims, and a local trucking company will transport all the suppliessouth to the effected areas.
- Waldorf College,sponsor of the RSVP of North Central Iowa, is offering help to collegestudents displaced by Katrina. Waldorf is offering up to 64 eligiblecollege students one semester of undergraduate education includingtuition, fees and housing. RSVP of North Central Iowa will helpthese displaced students adjust to northern Iowa.
- RSVP staff andvolunteers from Decorah have been involved in organizing a cleaningsupply drive for Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. It will be conductedthis weekend with 15 volunteers taking donations and getting them readyfor shipment.
- The Fort Dodge, IowaRSVP is teaming up with Phi Beta Kappa students at Iowa CentralCommunity College to collect Teddy Bears for children affected byHurricane Katrina. The Teddy Bears will be delivered to the gulfcoast by truck driving students from the college, and distributed byNational Guard troops. RSVP volunteers will help to collect andcrate the donations.
Louisiana
- Ten Foster Grandparents, with the Quad Area CAA FGP in Hammond,Louisiana are assisting the Revival Temple Church in Walker withevacuees from the New Orleans area. This past weekend FosterGrandparents went into the shelter to assist the children withactivities, reading to small groups and just listening to thechildren. The Foster Grandparents will also go into the sheltereach afternoon to help the children enrolled in the local schools withtheir homework. Revival Temple shelter currently has 32 students placedin the local schools.
- Through the Quad Area Community Action Agency/FGP in DenhamSprings, just east of Baton Rouge, 25 Foster Grandparents are helpingdisplaced children in local “Katrina” shelters, including helping themsucceed in school. They also serve in 2 shelters in theLivingston Parish and will begin helping in Tangipahoa Parish.
- On September 1, 2005, 97 Foster Grandparent Volunteers fromShreveport and Bossier went to the Shreveport Hirsch Coliseum Red CrossShelter for more than 600 the evacuees from New Orleans. TheFoster Grandparents met each family with a hug and words ofencouragement. Each Foster Grandparent ensure that the family receivedgot there personal hygiene packages, took them to get new clothing, andthey helped them to locate a bed for sleeping. Some Foster Grandparentvolunteers took victims to the get the first aid and medical care.
- The Foster Grandparent Volunteers donated $600.00 worth of food items.Bottled waters, Heavy duty trash bags, new microwaves,microwavable foods(pop corns, roman noodles, canned dinners, 200toothbrushes, toothpastes and many more personal items. As the directorof the Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program I went to locate businessand got many things donated on behalf of this much need task.
- 30 Caddo Council onAging RSVP volunteers in Shreveport take care of evacuees’ daily needsby washing clothes, giving directions to area services or just being asounding board at the LSU shelter in the Shreveport area.
Maryland
- A Baltimore City Health Department RSVP has deployed to LA, and others are helping at a blood bank for evacuees.
- 24 Allegany County RSVP volunteers are working with the localAmerican Red Cross, Salvation Army, or Western Maryland Food Bank toassist the local evacuees.
Massachusetts
- 1 RSVP Volunteer in the Worcester Area has been deployed to the Gulfregion with the local Red Cross Disaster Team. Additionally, theprogram has recruited 5 volunteers to assist in the local American RedCross chapter's phone bank.
- 20 Elderly Services of Cape Cod and Islands (ESCCI) RSVP volunteersare working with evacuees at Camp Edwards. All of thesevolunteers had training with FEMA, the Red Cross and medical reservecorps. These volunteers are in charge of administrating tetanusand hepatitis shots, transporting elders to doctors’ appointments anddecontaminating pets. Another RSVP volunteer with ESCCI was deployed byFEMA to Louisiana because of her advanced involvement with CERT.
- RSVP Worcester Area Volunteers has one volunteer who leftMassachusetts with the first group deployed to New Orleans. Inaddition, four volunteers are working with American Red Cross DisasterServices to help support phone bank operations.
Minnesota
- MN A CERT-trained RSVP volunteer from St. Cloud has been deployed by FEMA to New Orleans for 6 -8 weeks.
- TheRSVP of Crow Wing Minnesota is assisting the United Way by sortingclothes for Hurricane Katrina victims. Four semi-trucks of 75tons of donated clothing will be leaving Brainerd, Minnesota anddelivered to Long Beach and Biloxi Mississippi.
Mississippi
- 50Lowndes County RSVP volunteers in Columbus are working through theAmerican Red Cross providing bedding (quilts) for 10 families inshelters; working at Red Cross Service Centers where evacuees registerfor assistance and the processing of debit cards for disaster victims;and assisting at the local Red Cross office as needed.
- 25Kosciusko RSVP volunteers are assisting with services delivered at atemporary shelter, which is soon to have placed all families intemporary housing.
- 5 Hattiesburg FGP volunteers are working in area shelters to assist with children who are displaced from Biloxi and Gulfport.
- 1FGP volunteer works with 20 special needs client evacuees to NorthMississippi Regional Center in Oxford. More FGPs will work withthe 80 evacuees in the city and 40 in the county schools.
- Yazoo FGP volunteers cook and wash clothes for the 1,000 National Guard Armory deployed to the area.
- Indianola SCP volunteers are cooking at local evacuee shelters.
- BaySt. Louis RSVP volunteers are totally unaccounted for; the 425 RSVPvolunteers are all presumed homeless given the total destruction ofhomes in Bay St. Louis and the City of Waveland. The projectdirector, whose home was also completed destroyed, is working with themilitary and other services to do whatever is needed.
- Clarksdale RSVP volunteers are assisting the 500 evacuees to the area.
- Meridian RSVP volunteers are working with other community groups and churches to tutor and serve displaced children.
- 20 Natchez RSVP volunteers provide needed service in 10 shelters housing 6,000 evacuees.
- Tupelo RSVP volunteers sort and distribute donated items, prepare hot meals daily, and assist in local shelters.
Missouri
- Livingston County RSVP, the Chillicothe Rotary Club, and localchurches are “adopting families” evacuated from New Orleans.Twelve RSVP volunteers are handling the donations hotline there.Twenty-five RSVP volunteers from Altrusa Club RSVP in Poplar Bluffpartnered with America's Promise Volunteer Center and local churches tosort and load relief supplies in 4 semi trucks – two each departed forLA and MS.
Montana
- Twelve RSVP volunteers are assisting in fundraising for Katrina relief through the American Red Cross
- Four RSVP volunteers have been deployed to Alabama.
Nebraska
- Northwest Nebraska Community Action Agency RSVP volunteers are placedwith Red Cross; 3 CERT-trained volunteers deployed to recovery activityin LA, and 4 [more to come] are working with evacuees in Rapid City, SDand Cheyenne, WY. One CERT-trained VISTA [Rushville, NE VOAD] isorganizing support for evacuee center in Rapid City.
- 10Box Butte County RSVP volunteers are supporting the Box Butte CountyRed Cross office to accept monetary donations while the office staff isdeployed to the gulf region.
New Jersey
- TheGloucester County RSVP is working along with the local United Way andRed Cross to provide assistance to 19 families from New Orleans.In addition, the RSVP is also participating in blood drives andfundraisers at Gloucester County College.
- TheState of New Jersey FGP and SCP volunteers working out of Cape MayCounty collected money to purchase drinking water which was thendelivered to the local National Guard for shipment to the hurricanevictims. Volunteers in Hunterdon County, collected and donated money tothe American Red Cross.
- TheCONTACT of Mercer County RSVP program has agreed to take 1-800-SUICIDEcalls from the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina to providecounseling, and referrals.
- TheGloucester County RSVP works along with the United Way and Red Cross toassist the 19 families that have arrived in the county from New Orleans.
- FGPand SCP volunteers in Cape May County collected money to purchasedrinking water which was then delivered to the local National Guardunit for shipment to the hurricane victims.
New Mexico
- 375RSVP Volunteers from across New Mexico have teamed up with the RoadRunner Food Bank to collect clothes, shoes, belts, hosiery, cannedfood, stuffed animals, and toys along with monetary donations to sendto the Red Cross. RSVP volunteers have also joinedforces to have bake sales and to sell hotdogs, chips, cokes, etc. toraise funds to send to the Red Cross.
- FosterGrandparents have been working with children in classrooms where theyare making comfort packages for the children affected by Katrina.These include Coloring books, crayons, homemade cards and stuffedanimals and school supplies.
- RSVP volunteers in Belen teamed up with a local business to deliver by truck 34,500 ($7,200) bottles of water to Louisiana.
- TheAlbuquerque Convention Center provided temporary shelter forapproximately 90 evacuees from Louisiana. RSVP and FGP volunteerscollected items such as hand sanitizers, baby wipes, toothpaste,shampoo, soap, disposable razors, shaving cream, bandages, lotion, etc.for the Katrina victims/evacuees.
New York
- Westchester County RSVP is staffing the United Way 2-1-1 Helpline, ishelping local Red Cross screen prospective volunteers for disasterdeployment, and is assisting with preparations for the arrival ofevacuees.
North Carolina
- J.Iverson Riddle Developmental Center FGP/SCP supports the American RedCross by collecting food, clothing, toiletries, etc, and monetarydonations.
- Koinonia, Inc RSVP volunteers have taken bottled water donations and sent them to the Gulf Coast.
Ohio
- The Ohio Citizen Corps Lead Volunteers Centers are playing a rolewith evacuees expected to arrive over the weekend at the possibility ofthree intake centers in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. They havebeen assisting with collection of donated goods and volunteers, manyare with RSVP projects associated with Ohio Citizen Corps, toassist with processing and intake.
Columbus is expecting a possibility of 500 to 1000 individuals. BethEke with First Link a senior corps sponsor is the lead volunteer centerand contact for the center in Columbus and Junda Hamilton with FirstLink is the contact for Cincinnati, Maureen Drummond (RSVP programdirector) with Volunteer Service Agency in Youngstown is the leadVolunteer Center contact for the Cleveland areas along with Karl Rouch.They are working with Joy Banish, RSVP of Greater Cleveland and YoDambrosio, Southwest Suburban RSVP, the two RSVP projects that coverCuyahoga County. All lead volunteer center contacts are working withcity contacts to coordinate these efforts. As well in South EasternOhio Susan Rogers is the Lead Volunteer Center contact for evacueescoming in to Lawrence County by bus. There were expecting 30 this hasgrown to 200 coming in by bus.
- RSVP, Mahoning County, opened and staffs one-stop EmergencyAssistance Center at Salvation Army for arriving evacuees – to meet allneeds in one location.
- Marion and Crawford RSVP gathered and sent a tractor-trailer full ofrelief supplies to the Community Action Center in St. Mary’s Parish, LA.
Oklahoma
- 1 RSVP volunteer has taken in 17 evacuees.
- 10 RSVP volunteers work 12 hour shifts at Camp Gruber, an evacuee facility.
- 1 FGP volunteer works with evacuee students.
- 1 FGP project organized volunteer opportunities for Community Action Foundation.
Pennsylvania
- Delaware County PA Senior Emergency Corps
These members are part of the SoutheasternPennsylvania VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active inDisaster) are helping to man the telephone calls that are coming intothe Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of theAmerican Red Cross, primarily helping callers locate loved ones who are victimsof the disaster. Thesevolunteers, along with several hundred others, have been trained and credentialed to respond to disastersthrough agrant to that Red Cross Chapter from theCorporation. - RSVP of Allegheny County
Sponsored by the American Red Cross Chapter inPittsburgh, this program is extremely involved. One volunteer serves asa disaster response volunteer and has alreadybeen deployed to Alabama to serve the relocatedhurricane victims. Others are staffing the call center and answer callsfrom the community. Still others are assisting by staffing phone banksfor a fund raiser for severaldays. - RSVP of Jefferson, Clarion and Indiana Counties
An active volunteer from Punxsutawney, PA is amember of the Pennsylvania-South Jersey DisasterRelief Team and has been sent to Biloxi, Mississippi. He has helpedfeed more than 1,000 people. - 50VOAD volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeastern PA arevolunteering in the Red Cross' National Call Center. 2 VOAD volunteershave been sent to the gulf region and several more will be deployedlater this week. These volunteers were trained and organized under aSpecial Volunteer Program Grant.
Rhode Island
- 6more RSVP volunteers are assisting at the Salvation Army Office inNewport sorting donations, loading trucks and answering phones.
- 21Seniors Helping Others RSVP volunteers assisted 102 guests fromLouisiana. The volunteers sat with them during their first hot meal in14 days, assisted them in packing a bag of snacks to take toMiddletown, and helped them navigate a medical check. Inaddition, they brought gifts to the evacuees and made sure arrangementswere being made for them to move forward.
South Carolina
- 18RSVP of Greenville volunteer drivers are offering transportation fornon-emergency medical needs to hospitals, clinics or doctor's officesto the 600+ evacuees in Greenville County.
- 5Aiken/Barnwell RSVP volunteers helped coordinate the collection offood, clothing, and other items to be taken to LA. They aretaking two tractor trailer loads to the affected areas in LA thisweekend.
Tennessee
- Porter-Leath Children's Center is eager to place foster grandparentsin shelters operated by the Red Cross and Associated Catholic Charitiesto give support to the children who have been relocated to the Memphisarea.
Texas
- The Jewish Community Center in Houston, TX RSVP CERT [CommunityEmergency Response Team] is volunteering at the Houston Astrodome andseveral Nursing Homes to help care for the seniors coming from NewOrleans.
- Brazos Valley Council of Governments RSVP in College Station reportsthey are supporting the volunteer efforts for two shelters, both full:one shelter to assist individuals with special needs, volunteers areassisting local Red Cross, with the barrage of calls. They arealso coordinating the caravan of food and goods donations.Services are being coordinated with the local Red Cross, SalvationArmy, and United Way.
- South East Texas Regional Planning Commission, is taking a veryactive role in the evacuee relief efforts. We currently have over2,000 in shelters in Jefferson County, 400 in Hardin County, and 1500in Orange County. There is an unknown number in individual homes& we are still getting reports of pockets of evacuees in smalleramounts at area churches. RSVP staff, Leila and I, are activelyworking with Red Cross, County Judges & Emergency Management. Morethan 75 RSVP Red Cross/CERT trained volunteers have been on duty sinceSunday. They are serving as shelter managers, donationsorters, fund raisiers, information distributers, food & supplydistributers, and friendly shoulders. They are getting verytired, but the influx of volunteers from the community with volunteersis currently covering the additional needs. My plan is toorganize other RSVP volunteers beginning Thursday, 9/8.
- AnRSVP, who is also a medical doctor, serves in the Astrodome evacueecenter, and is assisting with the pharmacy and medical triage areas,and has also served meals and helped with casework. Another RSVP,who has been a volunteer with Red Cross for over 60 years, supervisesvolunteer intake specialists for the Red Cross at the Center.
- 29Galveston County RSVP volunteers have raised over $400,distributed food/clothing to those in shelters, sewn/donated 26 babyquilts, sorted donations, assisted affected seafarers in port, andenlisted other volunteers to assist with various activities.
- 25Fort Worth RSVP volunteers have participated in a variety of responseactivities including: case management for seniors 60+ temporarilyhoused in local community centers, volunteering in local shelters,helping with the phone bank at the American Red Cross, sewing shoulderbags for evacuees, and sorting clothing. RSVP volunteers have helpedSenior Citizen Services provide 19,500 meals for evacuees.
- 25Abilene Foster Grandparents assisted the First United Methodist Churchand Aldersgate Methodist Church with the coordination of 79 communityvolunteers. Together, they put together 105 “care packets”containing a comb, toothpaste and toothbrush, nail clippers, a handtowel, antibacterial medication, and band aids for shelters inLouisiana.
- 27Beaumont South East Texas Foster Grandparents are participating in theresponse efforts by assisting with 3 and 4 year olds in head startclassrooms set up for evacuees, assisting children of evacuees stayingat a local hotel, and assisting at the Shepard Inn shelter in theBeaumont area.
- 71Lubbock RSVP volunteers are processing vouchers for food; sortingdonated clothes, household good, and furniture; and providing otherservices for the 408 evacuees at the Reese Center shelter in Lubbock.
- 150Houston/Harris County RSVP volunteers have helped raise over $500,000for the relief effort and assisted with the management of over 500volunteers. RSVP CERT members were involved in the efforts at theAstrodome and Reliant Park where they directed traffic, set up cots,and served as information officers.
- 4Edinburg RSVP volunteers managed 75 community volunteers in theresponse efforts. Volunteers sorted food cans and hygieneproducts at the Rio Grande Valley Food Bank.
- 25Swisher County RSVP volunteers have been involved with Katrina Responseefforts by assisting with the collection of donated goods for theAmerican Red Cross.
Utah
- 3 RSVP volunteers from Moab, Utah spent one week at Camp Williams assisting the Baptist church with feeding hurricane victims.
- 1 Mountainland RSVP volunteer supported relief efforts at Camp Williams.
- SaltLake County Aging-FGP/SCP assisted in coordinating and implementing asenior center at Camp Williams for senior hurricane victims, as well asproviding information about Aging programs in Utah for those who arerelocating.
Vermont
- TheRSVP in Rutland is spearheading a relief effort to collect goods forvictims of Hurricane Katrina. Collection points were set up at 5locations throughout the county supported by RSVP volunteers who arecollecting, packing, and labeling, the items that are being shipped.
Virginia
- RSVPVolunteers in Luray have collected clothing, water, diapers, and othernecessary items -- filling 300 boxes that were sent on to Harrisonburgfor distribution to hurricane victims. Four volunteers have caravannedto New Orleans to support the efforts of the American Red Cross.
Washington
- TheVolunteer Center/RSVP in Olympia is running the statewide hotline forKatrina response. Staffing of this statewide toll-free hotline forKatrina Reponses/Operation Evergreen is an all-volunteer effort led byAmeriCorps*VISTA members.
West Virginia
- Brooke County Committee on Aging, Brooke and Hancock Counties RSVP,Follansbee RSVP volunteers are serving as registers, walkers andmanning the canteen at three local blood drives during this first weekafter the WTC disaster. They are also helping with food drivesfor disaster victims.
Wisconsin
- RSVP of Waukesha County is conducting a donations drive for toys, hats,baby blankets, etc., for shipment to MS. Eighteen Walworth County RSVPvolunteers took shifts at the Walworth County fair and raised $11,500for the American Red Cross disaster relief effort. The Volunteer Centerin Appleton sent 6 RSVPs to assist the local Red Cross with donationsand phone calls, and 4 RSVPs to the Salvation Army.
