The 5th annual AmeriCorps Week will take place May 14-21, 2011. AmeriCorps Week is a recruitment and recognition event designed to bring more Americans into service, salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their powerful impact, and thank the community partners who make AmeriCorps possible. AmeriCorps Week provides an opportunity for AmeriCorps members, alums, grantees, program partners, and friends to shine a spotlight on the work done by members in communities across the country – and to motivate others to join AmeriCorps or volunteer in their communities.

AmeriCorps Week Ideas

Whether you’re a project director, member, alumnus, partner, or friend, you can take part in AmeriCorps Week. There is no formula for marking the event – you are encouraged to develop new and unique ways to demonstrate the powerful impact that AmeriCorps is making in your community. Here are some ideas you are welcome to adapt and use:

  • Speak to the area Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, or other community group about your AmeriCorps experience.
  • Ask a local official, potential funder, celebrity, or reporter to become an AmeriCorps member for a day, or even an hour.
  • Host an open house or connect with other AmeriCorps programs in your area to stage a joint volunteer recruitment fair.
  • Contact the local newspaper, radio, television, and cable stations to request coverage of your group during the week, or ask them to run PSAs on AmeriCorps.
  • Ask your mayor, town council, county leader, or even your state’s governor to issue a proclamation recognizing AmeriCorps week and your group’s connection to it.
