We will be updating this space with additional resources for the Training for Excellence Meeting as they become available.
PURPOSE
This important and timely gathering of AmeriCorps State and National Training Professionals offers the opportunity to:
- Dialogue about the ‘new era of service’ as defined in the Serve America Act, and the implications for the training management function;
- Re-define the competent training professional as a leader in sustaining excellent service programs; and
- Explore the possibilities for maximizing web 2.0 technologies to implement training and technical assistance

1:30 p.m. The Serve America Act: It’s a New World! Change, Challenge, Collaboration
How does the Serve America Act address training and development? How does it change the world as we know it?
2:00 p.m. Trainers’ World Café
The World Café is an innovative yet simple methodology for hosting conversations about questions that matter. Participants will discuss the opportunities and challenges provided by the SAA and explore the personal leadership, communication, commitment and collaboration necessary to manage the transformations into this new era that comprises new and diverse audiences.
3:30 pm Leading Change: Trainers as Leaders
Identify the essential elements that contribute to successful leadership, explore your leadership skills and discover how to apply these skills to the training management function.

8:30 a.m. Training for Excellence: The Training Management Continuum and YOU!
Participants will reflect on their strengths and training philosophies to explore how they intersect with the primary functions of the training management continuum. This exercise continues the rigorous conversation regarding advancing the training profession to meet the significant opportunities in the ‘new era of service'.
10:30 a.m. Breakout Sessions - Round One
Session 1A: The Power of Design: Stand and Deliver!
Participants will examine the key elements in designing and delivering stand-up training so that objectives are met in the most optimal ways for multi-dimensional audiences.
Session 1B: The Wisdom of TEAMS: Skills, Accountability, and Commitment
Creating a high-performance team is essential to manage the changing world of national service. Learn what power and vision great teams can accomplish!
Session 1C: Event Planning/Training Logistics
Explore the art as well as the science of planning and implementing successful training events – there is a lot more to this than immediately meets the eye.
1:30 p.m. Breakout Sessions: Round Two
Session 2A: Assessing Community Needs to Develop a Training Plan
How can you ensure that you are designing training plans and learning experiences that address real, relevant needs and that in so doing, you contribute to the achievement of program goals? We will examine the why, what, how, when and where of assessing training needs.
Session 2B: Developing and Managing the Training Budget
Participants will explore the basics of building and monitoring a training budget. They will understand the major do's and don'ts of federal budget management and will have opportunities to share their effective budgeting practices.
Session 2C: Creating a Culture of Accountability: Measuring Your Success
Discover a new way to work through ‘Excellence-in-a-Box', a proven approach to advance performance. This challenge-centric, outcome-based system helps you focus your time and energy on what matters most.
